VW Golf R20T - First Details Revealed

Although the high-power Volkswagen R32 hatch has had many strong following it failed to successfully compete with the Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru WRX STI in the affordable AWD performance class. This picture may be about to experience drastic change though with VW's upcoming high-performance model internally called 'the R-Series Turbo' which will be known as the VW Golf R20 or VW Golf R20T, names that suggest the engine's displacement.
Majority of current talks point to VW's 2.0-liter turbo to replace the R32's present 3.2-liter V6 engine. Even with this apparent decrease in engine displacement, the engine is said to still generate 270bhp which is about 20 percent over the current vehicle and comes in a much lighter load than the previous engine. Estimated acceleration rate is placed at 0-60mph in about 5 seconds and it can attain a maximum speed of 155mph which is electronically limited. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual or a DSG dual-clutch gearbox. It is not certain if the R20T will come only with front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.
The R32 comes with an AWD system, but this causes extra curb weight as in all units in the Rabbit/Golf range. To get rid of the AWD may well reduce weight, but again it might lessen drivability and reduce the car's ability to compete with its closest rivals mention earlier. Styling upgrades consist of larger rims and tires, aero package with the flared arches, exhaust that is sportier, and most likely it will come with LED running lights.
